Yilan was the earliest-emerged swath in Taiwan following the tectonic rifts and collision; the central Range and the Hsuehshan Range were the result of plate tectonics. The Yilan Plain was created when the Lanyang River burst forward from the divergent opening of the Xueshan Range and Central Mountain Range, carrying a large amount of silt with it. Located in the west of the divergent Okinawa Trough, the Yilan Plain continues to grow in width and depth to this day. As a result, Yilan boasts diverse and unique geologic characteristics, including the geologic landscapes on the plain as well as the underground lithology and geologic structures. The geologic wonder of Yilan awaits everyone’s discovery. |
